Parents

As parents and carers of a child at Wray Common you are naturally part of our school community and an important element in your child’s learning and well-being while at primary school.

Support

Parents and carers are welcome in school, and there are many occasions when we like to see as many of you as possible.  Every class/year group holds an assembly once during the year to which you are invited.  In the run up to Christmas there is the KS1 nativity, with the Year 6 and KS2 school production in the summer, and several opportunities to come and listen to the choir, including a festival at the Dorking Halls in May.  In the busy summer term we hold the school sports day, take a large team of children to the District Sports event and stage year group swimming galas to which we encourage you to come along and support all the children competing.  Many children take part in other art and sporting events at which you are always warmly welcome.

Organisations

If you like the idea of joining a team of enthusiastic and hard working parents, you may be interested in raising funds for the school while at the same time building a social network via the Friends of Wray Common.  This organisation holds many events through the year including the highly successful Summer Fete – see the link on the Community page.  Other ways to get involved include joining the Parent Forum, or becoming a Parent Governor (when a position becomes vacant).

Help in Class

Many parents and grandparents help out at school in other ways.  Our class teachers benefit greatly from family support for listening to children read in class.  Different teachers arrange this in different ways – if you are interested please have a word with the class teacher.  During swimming sessions, parent help is essential in helping the children to get changed and walking them back to class, so if you have a few hours to spare during the week, please volunteer for this highly valuable role.

In order to give your help we ask you to complete a CRB check, a statutory requirement for adults working with children.  This is a simple procedure – please enquire at the office.

Reporting to Parents

Parent consultation evenings are held in the autumn and spring terms – look out for the letters from school sent out a few weeks before each half term break so that you can book a convenient slot.  Your child will bring home a written report towards the end of the summer term.  Finally, if you are concerned in any way regarding your child, you are welcome to make an appointment to see the class teacher for a chat.
