Ligamba, Tanzania
Children at Wray Common School have always studied the African country of Tanzania as part of the curriculum in Year 4. They investigate lots of aspects of life in Tanzania – music, art, food, comparing Reigate to a Tanzanian town or village, clothing etc.
Ligamba School is in Bunda, a town on the edge of Lake Victoria in Tanzania and educates children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. They all wear uniform and are very proud of their school.
In February 2010 one of Wray Common’s teachers Mr Hole, went to visit the school to set up a link, meet the children and staff there and swap cultural ideas. You can read more about Mr Hole’s visit by clicking on the link “First Contact” on the right hand side of this page. Here you can also watch a slide show of life in Tanzania and what Mr Hole got up to while he was there.
During the Easter holidays this year, two more Wray Common teachers had arranged to go to visit Ligamba School and meet two of their teachers, Tukiko and Jahannes. Mr Skelton and Miss Collis took with them stories that Wray Common children had written and gifts of friendship bracelets they had made.
Mr S and Miss C wrote on the school blog as often as they could to share their journey with Wray Common pupils, their families and the world. They took out a laptop and a digital camera for the school and got Ligamba School online so they too could blog and share their work with us and the world.
The second link on the right of this page “Diversity Trip 2012″, will have an outline of their trip and a slideshow of their photos. This is coming soon so check back regularly to see when it arrives.
