As you know we admitted an additional Reception class in September 2009 at the request of Surrey Local Authority. These children are currently in Year 2.

We will be opening an additional Year R class in September 2012. The need for the extra classes has arisen yet again due to the combination of high demand for primary places in the local area and the continuing increase in popularity of our school. We are extensively oversubscribed and, even with an additional class, it is unlikely that all parents who have nominated Wray Common will be offered places.

Having successfully integrated an additional class recently and having previously secured an appropriate level of funding, we were in a strong position to make our conditions of acceptance very clear. As before, our response was guided by two overriding considerations. Firstly, that any increase in the school’s size would not in any way compromise the existing high quality of education offered to children already at the school and secondly, that any new children admitted would receive exactly the same.

In order to ensure this, we have again negotiated an appropriate level of investment and support, including the provision of additional classrooms, expansion of playgrounds and, crucially, Surrey’s commitment (in writing!) to find a sustainable solution to the problem of parking and access to the school at the start and end of the school day.

Having secured these commitments, Governors met to consider the proposals very carefully and finally approved the proposal last week.

Plans for the use of the space will be available to look at  in PDF format, on this page very shortly, or you can visit the school entrance foyer when you pop in next.  Alternatively, myself or a member of the Senior Leadership Team are on the Junior playground every morning from 8.35am, please do come over and speak with us or make an appointment if this is more convenient.

Having been through this process very successfully recently, the teaching staff and I are very confident that this expansion will only enhance our school and we see the demand for additional the teaching staff and I are very confident that this expansion will only enhance our school and we see the demand for additional places here as a real endorsement of the quality of education we continue to offer at Wray Common.
